Residential life at the University of Notre Dame is designed to form undergraduate communities that are inclusive of all members; dedicated to the intellectual, moral, and spiritual development of each individual; and characterized by a collective sense of care and concern for the common good and service to others.

It is located on South Quad adjacent to "Main Circle", across from the law school building.Because of Alumni's central location and boisterous reputation, residents fondly refer to the hall as the "Center of the Universe". The older adults served by Notre Dame Housing (NDH) have and continue to face numerous challenges, including an inability to pay for the true cost of the services they need, flat income levels in the face of rising costs, a lack of awareness about what services and benefits could be available, and in many cases, cognitive or physical challenges that inhibit full access to services and benefits. In December 2018, the University began construction on Johnson Family Hall, a four-story women’s residence hall located east of Dunne Hall in the East Quadrangle. The construction of the new residence hall was made possible by a $20 million donation from alumnus John Baumer and his wife, Mollie, a Saint Mary’s alumna. 10. The new men’s dorm that will open in August will be called Baumer Hall after its donors, according to a Wednesday University press release.
While each residence hall delivers this experience differently, what is common among them all is the bond among residents that makes each individual hall such a special place to live. Readmitted or transfer students, students returning from a leave of absence, and students who studied in a non-Notre Dame international (or off site) program must apply to the wait list housing application through the Office of Residential Life and will be assigned if and when space becomes available. Harks Hall is traditional-style hall and provides housing to upperclassmen students.
Built to attain LEED silver certification, the 78,000 square-foot residence hall will be home to approximately 250 undergraduate men. From the minute the housing assignments are distributed, Notre Dame students enter into a new residential community that is one of the staples of life on campus.
